Help reading occupation COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 23 August 09 11:46 BST (UK) »
Hi

I was hoping someone could help me out with these two occupations of Evan and Robert.  I thought Roberts could be Carters Lad but have no idea what Evan's is.

Many thanks

no worries, found it ...

agree that Robert is a Carters Lad (the analysis clerks have noted CARM - Carman)

Evan is some sort of Hawker - own a/c, self-employed that is.....

Thanks Past Master  :)

I couldn't make out the Hawker, and Own Accord threw me too. Am getting somewhere now thanks to you.

But I'm still curious, do you think the first letter is a T ?  Maybe it's abbreviated??? My inexperienced guess would be T'yut  ???

Evan (my gt grandfather) was a general labourer in 1911 which doesnt give any clues.

T or H - but the 'C' of the added 'Carm' confuses the picture ...... a Hawker peddled his wares around, so could have been flogging anything !

After looking again I agree with the 'carm' problem and the possible H.

Thanks very much for your help  :)

Hi

I think his occupation is a Fruit Hawker.

(Ref 1901 RG13/3407/16/24)

The below is on the next page, where you can see a Foundry (Iron) Labourer and another Fruit Saleswoman.

Cheers
Koromo
