Looking for Frazer Wright and Mary Ann Roach
« on: Sunday 23 August 09 02:12 BST (UK) »
I am new at this website. Frazer Wright, born in Scotland, in the late 1700's, married Mary Ann Roach of England in the  early 1800's. Their son, John W. Wright, was born in England in 1825, and in 1846 married in Manchester to a  Mary Ann Williams born in 1826 in England. Their children:  William, Mary and John were born by 1854.  They moved to the USA by 1856. I can't seem to locate where in Scotland, Frazer was from or where Mary Ann Roach came from in England?  Any suggestions? Thanks, Ribcage

Hi

Welcome to Rootschat.

A check of the 1851 Census shows that Mary Ann was born in Bolton Lancashire in about 1801.  Unfortunately Fraser's birthplace is given merely as Scotland.

Cheers

Hi

Just popped in from the other topic on the same chap on the Scotland Board:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,401202.msg2706890.html#msg2706890

1841: Caroline Place No. 1 - Mt Pleasant, Liverpool, Lancashire (Think it runs of St Andrews Street)
HO107 /  Piece 561 /  Book: 19 / Folio: 11 /  Page: 15
Fraser WRIGHT 50, Painter, b Scotland
Mary WRIGHT 40, b Lancashire, England
Jno WRIGHT 14, b Ireland (abt 1826)
Fraser WRIGHT 12, b Ireland
Rob't WRIGHT 9, b Ireland
Jas. WRIGHT 7, b Lancashire
Thos. BEALLIE 1 month, b Lancashire (either meant to be BEATTIE - t's not crossed?  or BAILLIE??)

1851:St Andrews St - Mt Pleasant, Liverpool, Lancashire
HO107 /  Piece: 2183 /  Folio: 36 /  Page: 8
Head: Fraser WRIGHT 60, Painter, b Scotland
Wife: Mary Ann WRIGHT 50, b Bolton, Lancashire
Son: Robert WRIGHT 19, b Scotland
Son: James WRIGHT 10, b Liverpool, Lancashire
Dau: Mary F WRIGHT 8, b Liverpool Lancashire

The first thing I wondered is: in 1841, the 3 sons born Ireland. The in 1851, one of those sons is born in Scotland.

The IGI has, in a submitted entry:
Robert WRIGHT b 1 Apr 1832, St Cuthberts, Edinburgh, Midlothian
Parents: Fraser WRIGHT and Mary Ann CRITCHLEY

And an Extracted record:
Fraser WRIGHT and Mary Ann CRITCHLEY
Married : 25 Oct 1819, Canongate, Edinburgh, Midlothian

 ???

Cheers

Dear Ambly, Thanks for the info. My info shows a different Mary Ann (Roach), instead of (Critchley), also John was born in England, but your records show born in Ireland.  So, I hope it's the same family, but not Sure.  Cheers, Bob (Ribcage)

Hi Bob, assuming that John was the first/first surviving son of Fraser and Mary Ann, this (IGI extracted) looks like a good match.

FRASER WRIGHT b1st Jun 1790, ch 7th Jun 1790, Father John Wright, Mother-Isabel Low, ARBROATH, ANGUS.

John and Isabel married 16th Aug 1789 Arbroath Angus. (IGI extracted)

CHILDREN  Fraser 1790
                  James 1792
                  John 1793
                  Elizabeth 1795
All born Arbroath
Agnes 1796 born St Vigeans Angus

Cherry 1800 Canongate Edinburgh. This last birth could link in to a Canongate marriage for Fraser .

Dear Val,  I'm not sure if I thanked you for this info on Fraser?  Well, thank you again for helping me with this puzzle of my ancestors.  This answers alot of questions, as to where, in Scotland, my roots may have come from.  Sorry for the delay in responding.  Cheers, Bob, (Ribcage)
