Bounty Girl
« on: Saturday 22 August 09 00:00 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

In a recent post of mine that has since been moved to Australian Lookups Completed I received a reply that has raised some questions.

Not sure how to post links but I'll give it a go
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,398174.0.html

In a reply from Bob22 he states that Mary Currie was a Bounty Girl. I'll ask you guys the same questions

1. What is a bounty girl?

2. Does this mean my Mary Currie was not the Mary Currie that arrived on the SARAH BOTSFORD?

Cheers
Eupham  :)

Hi Eupham, A bounty girl were girls sent out by the government as servents. Potential employers met the ship and picked out who they wanted. She did arrive on the Sarah Botsford 15th Feb 1842. She sailed from Greenock 12th Oct 1841. In case you don't have it William Playle's parents were Joseph Playle ( Plail ) and Rebecca Saville married 2nd June 1820 Parish of Halstead County of Essex England. Joseph was born 9th Dec 1788 at St Marys Bocking England. Joseph's father was also Joseph and his mother Ann Turner. The Warialda Historic Society book states that William Playle went to the Blue Coat School in England and came as a free settler. This is not true. He was convicted 23rd May 1837 for stealing a quantity of coins from his grandfather Thomas Saville. He was sentenced to 7 years and arrived Sydney Cove on the Bengal Merchant.
He served 4 years at Moreton Bay and was granted his ticket of leave dated 12th Dec 1842. William buried all his papers so that his history was hidden. There is also a family story that he came from the line of Lord Saville. This also is untrue.I have more on his descendants so if you let me know your line I may have info you don't have.
Regards,
Bob22

Thanks Bob,

It's just little details that i'm missing about the dates of birth of Isaac and Mary's children. I have 11 children for them is that right? I don't have the date (only the year) for Emily, Thomas and Arthur. Do you know the full name of their children, I'll list them as I have them

Mary Louisa Graham - 20 Dec 1878 Yetman
Emily Rosina May Graham - 1879 Warialda
William Isaac Alexander Graham - 27 Sep 1880 Warialda
George Albert Graham - 24 Aug 1882 Warialda
Thomas Graham - 1884 Warialda
Amy Rebecca Saville Graham - 12 Jul 1886 Warialda
Richard Graham - 8 May 1888 Warialda
Grace Graham - 9 May 1889 Warialda
Alma Elsie Evelyn Graham - 27 Sep 1891 Warialda
Lucy Madolin Graham - 31 May 1893 Warialda
Arthur Roy Graham - 1895 Warialda

Also do you have a more specific place of birth. On William's birth certificate it just lists Warialda. Do you know the address of the house he may have been born in.

Cheers
Eupham  :)

Hi Eupham, I have the same info as you. My line is George Albert Graham who had my mother Edith Amy May. I do have most of their death dates if you need them. Also I have info on William Isaac and Alice Logan's children. I have eight listed with all but Bertha and Noel's death dates. I do have Grace Grant nee Graham's photos of the Graham clan that my mother in law obtained. I have a photo of William Isaac holding a baby and a couple of others with Roy and Isaac. Also Mary Jane. If you don't have these I'll scan them and send them to you as soon as I get a new scanner as my old one has given up the ghost!
Regards,
Bob

Hi Bob,

I would be interested in the photos. I'll try to send you a private message with my email address. Place of death for Evelyn is Kogarah, Isaac is Newcastle and William is Warialda. Dorcus Graham was named after her grandmother, she was born and died in 1907. Mary Graham was born in 1906 and died in 1916. Mary and Emily died within weeks of each other.

Cheers
Eupham  :)
