Me Again.

Just saw you have Milne on your research.  Mary Lyall was a Milne by maiden name from Perthshire, daughter of James Milne and Elisabeth Murray, any connection there?  Also have photo's of James and Elisabeth Milne, and Mary.

There has been a Pettigrew family tree done, and I think the man in question is still alive.  If either of you would like his details please send a P.M.

The name of the ship the Pettigrews came to New Zealand is the "Chariot of Fame" John was 10 years old, so this would of been in 1863.
John was also a Councillor for the Akaroa Area, so you should be able to find more information on him via the museum.

Hi again Suzy,

Really don't know all that much about my Majorie MILNE b: c 1806 Perth except she married in Couper Angus Perth John McLauchlan in 1824 & was from the Parish of Cargill.  They shifted
around the Perthshire area as John was an ag.lab. & now believe she died in Kilspindie Perthshire in 1850.  Another place recently came up in my quest for her family which was Inverkeilor (spelling??) Perthshire which I am still looking in to.

Also thanks for your other postings re ship they came out on in 1863..big help.

Sending you a p/m also re Pettigrew family tree you posted about.
Sounds great,
Many thanks for all your help,
Tiff

Hi sarndra,
hope all going well with you...often think of you when on here remembering how great you were with the "Blackadder" posting.

Re Charles Alfred PETTIGREW b: 1935 ...thanks for mentioning his marriage...remember you had quite a lot of families notes from Banks Peninsula.
We both may find out more as my cousins mother's mother was a Pettigrew who married a Wakelin from Barrys Bay who later lived where St. Bedes College  Christchurch is situated now in a large house which had a ballroom.

Sorry Sarndra for not replying earlier but am not receiving notifications of replies....must have missed one or two whilst I was overseas last year.

Take care,
Tiff

Hi you :-)

Awww you're more than welcome.   I know how great it is to get leads, so try to share when i can.

Yes one of my major family lines were quite prominent on the Peninsula as well as my ex husbands lot so a double banger there :-)

Yes Pettigrew can't be that common a name.

The house sounds lovely!  My ex inlaws lived in a house in Rose Street, Spreydon, Chch that had a springloaded ballroom floor!  Very old house.  Must have been state of the art for the well to do when these places were first built.

Until the next query!!

Cheers

Hi  Tiffany,

Not sure if you are still working on this line but I am also a Pettigrew descendant and I wouldn't mind checking some details before going to Scotland in a couple of weeks.

As far as other (secondary) resources that you and posters on this thread might find useful, check out the Cyclopedia of NZ. It is a directory a bit like a who's who and you can access a digitised version of the 1903 edition.

http://nzetc.victoria.ac.nz/tm/scholarly/tei-Cyc03Cycl-t1-body1-d5-d20-d3.html

Apparently it was a vanity press publication - the people paid to be listed but the entries give nice bios with a  bit more information about jobs etc. If you are lucky there are photos too!

This newspaper article about a reunion of the immigrants on Chariot of Fame gives some details of the passage and what happened to other immigrants.

http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&d=CHP19140130.2.17&l=mi&e=-------10--1----0--
(that link looks wierd! try Press, Volume L, Issue 14888, 30 January 1914, Page 4)

I think other posters have covered the rest of what I have.

Regards,
Liz
