Leo Mooney & Rose Reilly - Cavan Ireland
« on: Wednesday 02 March 05 20:09 GMT (UK) »
I have been searching for Leo Mooney and Rose Reilly's birth, marriage and death for nearly 2 years.  I do hope someone can help.  The name 'leo' doesn't appear very common.   Info I have
Leo Mooney and Rose Reilly had 3 children I know of all born Ireland (have checked GROS, and nothing there) James, Pat, Thomas   James and Pat married in Glasgow
James 1861 to Bridget Welsh, Pat in 1872 to Anne Jennings (have certificates) on both parents given as Leo mooney and Rose Reilly and neither as deceased.  On 1881 Census for 15 Little dovehill Glasgow   Rose Mooney listed as 65 widow a visitor and a nurse (if any one knows of any list I can check for nurses then please let me know) Why I'm trying to search in Cavan is because Rose is listed as place of birth Co. Cavan Ireland.  Have tried Griffiths Valuation but no luck - though I might be looking in the wrong place!!
On the Death certificate of the 3rd son Thomas d 1896 both leo and rose listed as deceased.  If anyone can look up, check or give me any advice about how to locate Leo and Rose then please let me know.  The name 'Leo' has caused me 3 generations of problems!!!!!!! as it seems to be used by some of my ancestors as there name, but it is not their birth name!!!

Hello Audrey
Thank you very much for checking for me.  apologies but I may being a bit dim but what does BVRI mean.  You also mention that there were a number of Mooney's with no given names, did you note which place in Cavan?   I have been trying for so long to find these 'leo's' of mine that I might just be missing the obvious.  Maybe the story so far might be useful
Leo (1)  Mooney  & Rose Reilly  (no trace of birth, marriage or deaths)
Children James, Pat and Thomas (have birth, marriage and death certificates)
James Married Bridget Welsh 1861 Glasgow had a child (this is one of the Leo's!!) James and Bridgets child 'Leo (2)' could also be Robert Leo, James Leo or Thomas!!!
this 'leo (2)' was a ships stoker. Married Agnes Murray in 1887 and they had 2 children James and Robert.  James emigrated to Canada and low and behold became James Leo Mooney.
My search has concentrated on finding Leo 1 and Leo 2, though Leo 2 story goes deserted his family and went to America.
Leo 2 has been named on two birth certificates as Leo Mooney, two death certificates one as Robert Leo Mooney and 1 as James Leo Mooney.  On his own marriage certificate he is signed as Leo Mooney.  Rambling I know but trying to find these folk has made me a bit obsessive!!!!

More info on Leo Mooney & Rose Reilly(parents possibly John Reilly & Catherine Brady)
Leo & Rose I now know had 6 children
James (abt 1843) Catherine (??) Bernard (abt 1839 m Anne Kennedy, Indianna USA one child Anne) John (abt 1851) Pat (abt 1846 m Anne Jennings had 8 children one called 'Leo', bernard, Edward, Pat, James, John, thomas and mary) and Thomas (abt 1851 Single)

I know that James (abt 1843) was in Glasgow in 1861 (census) and he was living with an Owen Reilly (m Margaret) Mary Winslow, Peter Cox (Mary and Peter were witnesses at James wedding in 1861)
James married Bridget Welsh (1861)

From poor house applications made by James wife Bridget, his brothers Bernard and Thomas it stated place of birth as Arvagh, Killishandra Co. Cavan.  There is also mention of his brothers John, Bernard and sister Catherine going to America around 1895
James and Bridget had a child 'Leo' but that was probably not his birth name as he went alternatively between Leo, James Leo or just James, which makes the search all the harder.
If anyone recognises any of this information or could give me a clue as to where Leo Mooney & Rose Reilly were located or where I might look,  it would be very much appreciated, been looking for a very long time for 'Leo', thank you for taking the time to read this.
