Hodgson family, Meath
« on: Thursday 20 August 09 16:07 BST (UK) »
I have traced my paternal great grandmother to Meath but am struggling to find out any more about her family.
She was Emma Hodgson, born 1852.
Bapism 25th May 1852 at Newhaggard, Trim. Church of Ireland.
By1871 she was in England, working at The Ship and Royal Hotel in Lytham.
Any help/info would be appreciated.

there are record transcripts for Co. Meath available on the pay website of the Irish Family History Foundation at www.irish-roots.ie

There is a match for Emma's baptism in 1852 in Trim CofI parish and she' the only Hodgson baptism that I see for that parish.

In the same parish there are a few Hudson marriages including one of an Edward  in 1850.. could that be her father ?

Thanks Shane. According to her marriage certificate, her father was called Thomas and he was a miller. A witness to the marriage was William Hodgson. Maybe a brother.
I can't find any other records, but as you say, it may well be down to a different version of the name.
I'll keep looking.
Thanks for your help.

These are the millers listed in Trim from Slater's directory of 1846.. (edit - corrected typo in the year) no Thomas but he could have been employed by one of these :

Thomas Gerrard , jun. (oatmeal), Newtown mill
John Keefe [late] (oatmeal & flour), Iffernock mill
Patrick Kennedy, Crow Park
John Irvvin  (oatmeal and flour), Rathnally mill
Charles Nangle  (flour), New Haggart mill

you can view the directory here : http://www.failteromhat.com/slater.htm
the Trim Entry is at this page : http://www.failteromhat.com/slater/0395.pdf

Thanks so much Shane. V interesting to see mention of a mill at New Haggart as I have Newhaggard on baptismal record. Will research this.
