Hello fellow Brogan descendants,

I'm not sure if anyone is still active in this thread but I may have some input of interest.

I descend from a Michael Brogan who is recorded as coming from Co. Clare. He was convicted at Ennistymon Sessions, Clare of stealing a cow in 1847 at the age of c.30. He was subsequently transported to Tasmania arriving 1849 and served his 7 year sentence in Oatlands, Tas. Subsequent records suggest he was born closer to 1814. He died in 1903 with his age recorded as 89.

For some time I have been exploring a potential connection to Stephen Brogan of Scarriff who was born around 1810 as a potential brother of my Michael. The reason I have focussed on Stephen is I and my mother have some DNA matches with his descendants. This all seemed to fit with the Brogans who were recoded being at Cappybane Mountain Farm IE:

Stephen Brogan
Michael Brogan
Michael Brogan junior
James Brogan

However these same 4 people appear at the same place in the Tigth Applotment Books in 1825 and 1840 (see images attached). The problem I see is that Stephen and Michael who were born around 1810 and 1814 respectively would be too young to be paying in 1825.

So this leads me to the thought that Michael Brogan junior and Stephen were possibly brothers from the generation before my Michael (1814) and the Stephen (1810) that others have. Michael Brogan senior could be the father of those 2. As for the James listed above, others in this thread have him as being born around 1800 or earlier so he could be a brother of Stephen and Michael, their uncle, or possibly their father.

I would love to hear what others think.

Derek
