perhaps you could explain further:

where did you get the marriage and what date was it?
why do these children have a different name?
were they born England or India?

I have used FIBIS before so understand that!!

IGI ref. to the parents as being Henry & Charlotte so no actual marriage date given just an assumption that they were as quoted as parents.
Childrens surname is Kemp.
I also wonder if Edmentina is the  correct spelling .
This Henry Kemp I believe had married Susanna Ursala Penelope Graux de la Bruyere 1-10-1807 Cornhill,LDN. so you have la Bruyer appearing in first childs name in Allypore.
Children  William Kemp1817. Bristol
John    Kemp 1821.Cornhill  married Tasmania died Australia
               George  Kemp 1824 Cornhill
James Lyon  Kemp 1825 Bristol  died Australia
Susanna Dorothy Kemp 1826 Bristol  died Cheltenham.GLS
There is rumour he married a cousin, perhaps its Edmentina
Nothing in FIBIS I can find about this Henry.
Henry was involved in merchant/shipping with a James Lyon of Bristol who married a Frances Kemp, this Kemp line appears Cornhill,LDN to Port Elizabeth South Africa from 1820.
As Henry was born in 1777 Ramsgate,Kent  its where he may fit in or not with the Cornhill Kemps who were glass manufactures using there brothers/cousins to export looking glasses to India.
Spelling of "Bruyere" differs (no surprise)

Hello,

I think I can give you some details about the marriage of Henry Kemp and Charlotte Erstina Winkler. They married in Cochin on May, 2nd 1835 and this is the transcription of the parish register (found at the British Library)
"1835 N/2/O/3, f. 14
Henry Kemp and Charlotte Winkler
Marriages at Cochin.
Henry Kemp, Bachelor, Master Mariner, and Charlotte Winkler, Spinster, both of Cochin, were married in this Church of Cochin by License from the Right Honorable the Governor this second day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty five, by me, S. Ridsdale, Officiating Clergyman.
This marriage was solemnized between us: H. Kemp, C. Winkler
In the presence of: R. Oliphant, Sarah Buchanan"

Charlotte was the daughter of Pieter Winkler, pilot of Cochin harbour, and Caroline.
Pieter was from Dutch origins but born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. He probably emigrated to India by 1790. Married twice. He had at least 7 children with his second wife Caroline (maiden name still unknown).
Charlotte was born on 30/10/1813.
I have no info about her married life and what happened to her children.
I don't know if they stayed in India or moved away.

Best regards from France,
Annick

There's a coincidence I live in France as well!!!!!!!!! and my neighbor is called a Annick.
Thankyou for all the information on Henry Kemp and I am particularly pleased to have had  the "Winkler" name solved.
I am sure that Henry Kemp is the son of another Henry Kemp who was a Chief Mate with the EIC till 1826. Although for a chief mate he had done rather well financially.
The children of Kemp/Winkler; Henry Alfred laBruyere married in India but there two sons  died.
The second son William Lyon Winkler has vanished at present.
Kind Regards,
Robin

Hello Robin,
What a coincidence indeed ! Where are you living in France ?
I saw you put a picture of Henry Kemp ; by any chance would you have one of Charlotte or her children ?
Wishing you a nice Sunday (cold but sunny here in Paris),
Kind regards,
Annick

Hi Annick,
I live about 15K north of Angers  and we have it sunny and cold, warmer next week.
The miniature is of Henry Kemp 1777-1841.
None of Charlotte. As Henry married in 1807 and the first child appeared to be born in Ramsgate in 1815 there was a suspicious gap, which I believe is filled by this Henry who married Charlotte Winkler. I presuppose that Henry was born in India and his father may be the one referred to by Fred Hitchen-Kemp in his History of Kemp Families " who left a young wife at home with children".
But other than the use of "laBruyere" in the Henry Alfred laBruyere Kemp born 1839 Allypore son of Henry and Charlotte I have no proof. Although a Alfred is the name of another son who would have been his brother.
Having bored you with that I have found the interlocking grid of christian names which moves through the generations in Victorian times to often be the key to tracing people in descent.
Kind Regards
Robin
