" Completed" would death cert show place of birth ?
« on: Tuesday 18 August 09 19:49 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I have found a death record for one of my  ancestors on the British Columbia Archives website (I think )....James Bertram Worsley b: 1884 in Hulme Manchester.  The death record shows he died in Vancouver 16th  Nov 1950. (reg No 1950-09-010615) Would the death cert show his place of birth ?.
His brothers and sisters were
William   b 1879
Frank     b  1887
Nellie     b  1891  and
Joseph   b  1900

Any help much appreciated
Debbie x

The Canadian certificates I've ordered were prior to 1915.  I'm not sure what the more recent certificates include.

James Bertram is buried in Mountain View Cemetery.  You could try writing to the cemetery office and ask for his information.  I've done this in the past and most times was successful.  One person not only gave me the information requested, she also included information about those who were in the same plot.  I stated who I was to the deceased and I wrote a letter, rather than email.  (I received very few responses via email.)

When trying to find the exact town of birth for my brickwall ancestor, the cemetery record was the only record that stated his exact place of birth.  (He died in 1912.)

Hi Debbie,

I don't know what is on the death certificate but the Registration of Death in BC contains a lot of information including the birthplace.  Of course, the information is provided by the informant so the accuracy depends on the relationship of the informant to the deceased.

I can get you a copy of the death reg on my next trip to my local FHS library; however, I'm not sure when that will be.

Regards, Susan

Debbie, if you modify the title of your first post to say "BC look-up" there are some kind souls here who do BC look-ups.

Hi Debbie

I have ordered quite a few registrations for BC and I have found that most of them indicate the place of birth.

But having said that it also depends on who the informant was. I some cases they might not know .

Best to have someone get the records for you  and you will find out for sure.

Hi Debbie

On the BC Archives website, I see there is a marriage for James Bertram Worsley and Amy Burden in New Westminster, BC on April 4, 1914.  Is this marriage registration of interest to you?  If so, I can make a copy.

Thanks.

Susan
