Yes I have asked how much it is to have a copy of the probate and the two properties he seems to have bought, I am just waiting for the replies now and will update the post when I have more info!

The best resource online I have found for military records is through the Auckland War Memorial. (I don't know how to post URLs, but just google it.) Go to Cenotaph databases.

The search for this military record, has since, taken a rather bizarre turn (and yes, .... the Auckland Cenotaph database played a big part in revealing some very important information ... so for sure, it is a great resource.)    ;)

It still confusing for me (contradictory informations)

In the past when records were with NZDF you can order for free one record a year. Now it seems you have to pay $25 for each record you order (according to the letter I received today from the Nat Archives (copy below)
