Thanks Merlin & Suz, if you do come across any more info on Samuel Gent I sure would be interested in it, as it has for several years been one of my 'brick walls' that have me stumped.

Hi,

I have just started researching my family, and find i am related to the Gents mentioned above. Searching for smart links on My Heritage.com took me to the Abbott website. Samuel Abbott is my Maternal great grandfather. I would contact the via the website where the Gent/Farncome conection is traced to mid 1600's

Hi Dave,
The trouble with this Samuel Gent you show was he was born 1783 whereas
the Samuel Gent in the Wood Ditton/Saxon Street in the 1841-71 censuses say he was born 1793-6 and when he died 20/9/1872 his age is given as 78, so again born 1794.

To get his birthdate a few years out seems possible, but 11 years seems too much of a stretch. Also I seem to remember this 1783 Samuel Gent did turn up locally to Selston in the 1841 census and so I had eliminated him from my possibles.

Best

Just a thought.  I've been dozens of times to the archives and have extracted every B, M and D in Selston relating to Gent and a few other interlinked surnames as well.   The Samuel bap 7th July 1783 to Samuel and his wife is my direct line if that's any use to anyone.
The William in Family Search born to Edward and Mary in 1808 does not exist.
The nearest is an Ann bap 3/1/1808 to Sam and Mary, followed by another Ann to the same couple 19/3/1809. They are the only Gent baps in 1808.

If anyone would like a check of any Selston Gent entry, please PM me.
