Purkins in Marylebone
« on: Monday 17 August 09 18:01 BST (UK) »
Looking for any info on Purkins.

William Purkins born 1810 was a plumber and I found him in 1841 census in James St. He remarried in 1849. Where would his wife Eliza Purkins (nee Brett) have been buried?

Thanks to the 2nd marriage I found William's father was also William and a plumber and died before 1849.

I think William the younger died between 1871, (last seen on a census), and 1881, when 2nd wife Elizabeth (nee Lomer) a widower was living in Carlisle Street.

I did find another William Purkins in 1841 census who was 70 and not born in London, but no profession given so not sure if a relationship.

I have followed the line from William's son Alfred born 1849 who moved to Newcastle.

Any access to Parish records prior to 1837 to shed more light on the Purkins would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hello Barbara,
I know this is an older post, but I'm hoping to connect with you.
I have been trying to trace my g-grandfather, Arthur Owen Lomer, and suspect that his name changed. Your Arthur Owen Purkins b 1853 Marylebone, came to my attention and the more I look at the family - the more I believe he may have changed his name to Lomer.
You state that William's second wife's maiden name was Lomer. Could I ask if this is documented? If so, it may be another dot on the connection line.
Thanks!
Karen

Hi Karen, thanks for your email. I have got some documentation - a marriage certificate for William's 2nd Wife. Send me your email address and I'll try and dig it out and send it to you. If there is a connection I'd like to hear about his descendants. When I have updated my Purkins file with recent research I'll send it to you.
Kind regards

Barbara
