Marriage discomfort...
« on: Monday 17 August 09 17:38 BST (UK) »
I am researching my ancestors - the Tustins, who lived in Worcestershire / Warwickshire in 1760s onwards.  my 4x Great Grandfatehr was born in 1767 and married in 1806, possibly in Birmingham.  The girl he married was 14 / 15 when they married.  I know that lots of marriages happened very young then, but is this likely?  he would have been 38 so there is a BIG age difference.  I have searched for other marriages for a susanna to a someone else Tustin, but it seems like quite an unusual surname then and nothing else seems to ahve turned up.  He died in 1831, having fathered 9 children - he was tired I think!!! :)
It just doesn't all stacc up quite properly, but maybe I am just being a bit conventional :)

any advice would be greatly recieved

cheers

Calm

From a pragmatic point of view, what time period between 1806 & 1831 were these kids born?
That'll indicate when (or if) she had reached menopause.

IGI data for marriages between a george tustin and a susanna, which just happens to give her surname as warr.

I couldn't find he rin 1841 census, but she is more than likely alive then, but not sure...

hmm, did the IGI marriage give her age? It's not usual to do so at that era.
You might do better searching registers for her death to establish a birth year.
