proper spelling of Annahinchago or Annahunshigo, County Down.

Hi there!  I am new this site.  I came across an old message from January 2006 from Aleks, a Presbyterian living in the townland of Annahinchago whose family have lived there for a number of generations.  I am hoping to find my mother's great grandparents - William Martin YOUNG, born about 1824 of Annahinchago, Down Ireland, of the famous Dolly's Brae at which he bore arms.  He married Jane McIlroy, born about 1828 of Annahinchago, Down Ireland.  Their daughter Rachel Young was born about 1847 of Annahinchago, Down Ireland and died 1918 Rathfriland, Down Ireland.  Rachel was the mother of Robert Bell born 1885 of Rathfriland, County, Down.  Robert is my mother's father.  I am hoping to get any information on these great grandparents and to verify any of the above dates.  Thank you for viewing my post.

1 May 1873 in Drumlee Presbyterian Church, Drumgooland Parish, Banbridge.

According to http://www.thecore.com/seanruad the correct spelling of the townland is :

Annahunshigo 553acres  in the barony of Upper Iveagh, Lower part in the civil parish of Drumballyroney County Down.

  Thanks for the speedy reply Otto.  Would the spelling of Annahunshigo have been Annahinchago in the 1800's.  I am wondering where my mother got this spelling from on all her paperwork.

Griffith's lists the name as Annahunshigo but there're often variations in the spelling of Irish place names based on pronunciation so your mother's version is also correct (and there could easily be others).

Back then names of places etc.. were spelt how they sounded, so any spelling is acceptable. Check aghadowey's posting.

Kingskerswell, Also many thanks for your quick reply regarding the marriage of Rachel Young to Robert Bell in 1873.  My mother has that date documented already but thank you for the confirmation.  So where do I look from here.  I also need the dates on the BELL side of her great grandparents, Robert BELL born about 1822, of Seafin, Down, Ireland who married Martha BELL (I believe a second cousin) also of Seafin, Down, Ireland, who was born about 1826.  They are parents to the above Robert BELL whose marriage you found.  Thanks so much.
