Hello....Am trying to help my elderly neighbour trace his family tree.......
The CARTER family appear on 1901 census at Barking Rd. West Ham
Henry Carter Head  37  Fruiterer  B.West Ham Essex
Emily             Wife    33                 B. St. Georges London
Henry            Son     11                 B. West Ham Essex
Emily             Daug    12                              "
Walter           Son      9                                "
Albert              "         7 (Died WW1?)          "

Can some kind person trace them back through the previous census

Have you been able to identify Henry in 1881?

There doesn't seem to be a Henry Carter born West Ham on earlier censuses. Do you have his marriage cert? If so, what does it say about his father?

Oooh - I like the fact he's Henry J  :D (although he marries as plain Henry apparently). Also dad a General Dealer. 

Does it say place of birth Plaistow? Are you posting the full details?  :)
