David Stewart b 1860 Ireland
« on: Saturday 15 August 09 18:08 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have any information on a David Stewart born 1860 in Ireland, he married Mary Ellen Lamont (born 1868) on the 21 aug 1886 in Rasharkin in Ireland, we think they moved to Scotland before their third child was born in 1891.

I'm trying to trace Davids parents details as all I can find are their names - David Stewart and Mary Jane Marks, any help would be gratefully recieved.

Thank you

Tomskibabes.

Welcome to Rootschat.

According to IGI David Stewart and Mary Jane Lamont had the following children (possibly others, like David, born before 1864)-
-Thomas born 17 Jan.1866 Portglenone district, Co. Antrim
-Robert William King born 5 Sept.1869 Co. Antrim
-Annie born 11 Apr.1871 Co. Antrim
-Nancy born 4 June 1873 Ireland
-Thomas born 4 June 1874 Co. Antrim
-James born 7 Apr.1876 Co. Antrim
-Samuel born 23 Mar.1870 Gortfad, Co. Antrim

Do you have the actual marriage certificate of David and Mary Ellen (or just details from Scottish birth certificate of one of their children)? The actual marriage certificate will list their residences at time of marriage.
Going by the dates of children it's likely that David Stewart and Mary Jane Marks were married after the start of civil registration in 1845 and their marriage certificate should list their residences as well as fathers' names and occupations.
Civil registration index is online on LDS Pilot site but it's been down for maintenance since yesterday and there're not sure when they'll have it running again.

Thank you for the details of the children of David and Mary Stewart,

do you possibly have any details on their dates of birth and place of birth etc.

Thanks again.

The details we have are from the Scottish marriage certificate only.

The details are in my earlier post- to find exact place of birth you need birth certificates. One thing that does worry me is Portglenone and Gortfad given as birthplaces- suggests the family lived near Portglenone not Rasharkin. It could be that Mary Jane Lamont was the connection with Rasharkin- after all most marriages take place in bride's church- and Lamont is very common surname in that area.

Thanks,

Sorry for the confusion, I'm struggling now with David Stewart Seniors date of birth?
I can only guess it was C. 1835-1840, or even before these dates, which would have made him 20-25 when his son (also David) was born.

I can't seem to find the marriage between David Stewart and Mary Jane Marks either???

Any ideas where to look, I've just tried the LDS via family search but found nothing that I was 100% sure was correct.

Thanks
Tomskibabes

Hi,
I am James Stewart's ggrandaughter.  Your David's brother.  Just wondering if you are interested in sharing info.  My James moved to Scotland and then married and immigrated to Australia.
