Londonderry Drumachose residents
« on: Saturday 15 August 09 14:22 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help please?

I am looking for Scott Lindsay born approx 1817 Co.Londonderry who married Ann ? born approx 1822 in Co.Antrim.  They had several children in Drumachose between 1841 &1863/4 which I have managed to find on the IGI.  I have found Scott in Glasgow in the 1881 Scotland Census as a pensioner from the RIC.

I want to find out Scott's birthplace (& his parents names), his wife's surname & when/where they married (around 1840 i'm guessing) & anything else about their life in Ireland - not alot then!!

Any advice welcome.  Thanks. Olphert

Seems to me the children of Scott and Ann Lindsay were
baptised in Drumachose [Limavady] Presbyterian Church
and someone has put the details on the IGI.

PRONI MIC/1P/422.
Baptisms 1837-1913
No marriages before 1845.

A Thomas Lindsay married Elizabeth Williamson 24 Feb 1834
in Christchurch [Drumachose/Limavady Church of Ireland].
There appear to be no Lindsay baptisms in Christchurch before
civil registration [1864].

I found this on a website on Ferguson families of Ulster:

Died
22 Mar 1869, Magherafelt, Margaret Ferguson, Widow, 80, House Keeping, Debility & Old Age, Scott Lindsay - Magherafelt Workhouse

Scott was a witness to this death in Magherafelt workhouse so perhaps
he was working there in 1869? [or there may have been another Scott
Lindsay?]

Many thanks for your help Gortinanima - it is much appreciated.  I didn't realise that it would be a Presbyterian Church where the children were baptised & I will investigate both Thomas Lindsay & Magherafelt workhouse.
Thanks, Olphert

Hello

I am also looking for Scott and Ann Lindsay.

I have also found Scott in Glasgow in the 1881 Scotland Census as a pensioner from the RIC. Is it possible to get further info from RIC records and if so how?

I want to find out Scott's birthplace (& his parents names), his wife's surname & when/where they married (around 1840 i'm guessing) & anything else about their life in Ireland - not alot then!! (Sound familiar?? :))

Any advice welcome as searching in Ireland is not easy and when we have the Lindsay side sorted we have to start searching for O'Briens!!!!!!

Thanks

Andrew

Hello again!

Further investigation of baptism records suggests that Scott and Ann Lindsay were Master and Matron of the Magherafelt Workhouse between 1848 and 1871.

I would like to get hold of the Magherafelt Workhouse minutes (BG/23/A) which is held at PRONI.
Can anyone suggest the best way to get hold of the minutes from that period please?

Thanks

Andrew
