Surrey Bernados Home
« on: Saturday 15 August 09 04:06 BST (UK) »
My Partner is trying to find her grandmother or her descendants. Her grandmother married twice. First marriage she had 4 children. Now comes the tricky part...During World War 2 it seems that her husband was away at war and she met another man. To him she had twin daughters born May 1945, they were given their father's surname. She was unable to care for the twins and sent them to Keffolds  Barnados home in Surrey. At this time she was living in Merton. When the twin's father returned from the war he collected his twin daughters and brought them to live with him.

Does anyone know of any records that would show the residents of the Banardos home in Keffolds,
Bunch Lane, Haslemere, Surrey during the years 1945 -1947?

On the twins birth certificate the adress given for the parents was 22 Botsford road, Merton, Surrey NE, does anyone have access to records that would show who was living at that address in 1945?

Any help or advice would be truely appreciated.
Sincerely
Reg Dilloway

Hi Reg

Thank you for joining Rootschat, I'm sorry that your post has been heavily edited though to remove the names of people who may still be living.

Please study our 'Guidelines for postings'

http://www.rootschat.com/help/posting_guide.php

There is a Local Studies Centre for Merton, where they hold old electoral registers

http://www.merton.gov.uk/leisure/history-heritage/localstudies.htm

click on archive enquiries.

From experience, most local studies will do one look up for one address in one year. So you could send them an email asking to know who were the eligible voters at that adddress in 1946. There weren't any electoral registers taken 1939-1945 during the war. Any more requests and they are likely to charge for the service.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your advice. I am sorry that my posting did not conform to your guidelines. I can assure you that it was not intentional. With regards to my posting the same message three times, at the time I posted my message it appears that your server was overloaded and my web browser did not show me that my posting was listed. Once again I am sorry that this occured. Thank you for your kind advice and assistance.
