Mary McConnell drumo +drumcro district of Moira
« on: Friday 14 August 09 13:20 BST (UK) »
Ok Folks need a wee bit of help today to complete my search!!
As you may already know my great grandfather was a foundling - so in order to find out who he was i had to go to GRO yesterday and search his birth cert - was doubtful i would find anything! But low and behold i found him - he was born on 28/10/1886,registered on 10th Dec 1886, no birth father registered, mother - Mary McConnell, seamstress, her place of residence was listed as drumo + drumcro, that is all the details i have for her, no age, no parents,i am assuming her year of birth could range from 1845 - 1871.where do i go from here or is this the brick wall!
Thanks for reading this, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.
Belfast - Hanna, Hobbs
Magherline - McConnell
Cumberland  - Gibson
Northumberland - Algar

Drumo and Drumcro Townland is in the Parish of Magheralin.  There are a number of McConnells leasing there in Griffiths Valuation.  Arthur McConnell leased in Drumo and Drumcro, so maybe there is a connection.  In LDS I see Arthur McConnell married to Eliza Patterson and having children during the right period, but no Mary listed.  However, it is worth trying to follow up this lead for Mary's birth.  RosemaryJoan

McCormick (Killyleagh and finally Belfast)

Thanks for your reply - i did see the arthur mcconnell on the griffiths, have searched LDS, but so many mary McConnells! Think i will have to go research local churches. Do you know the area, and if so are there any church of ireland churches in magherlin area. Do i write with a request directly to the minister.

According to Ros Davies County Down site, the C of I church in Magheralin is St. Saviour's, Dollngstown, but don't rule out St. John's in Moira.  Can't tell you about where the church records are to be found, as PRONI search engine is not working today.  My McConnells were from the next Parish, Dromore.  RosemaryJoan
