James Ruddell Todd of Seagoe or Ballintergart
« on: Friday 14 August 09 13:20 BST (UK) »
I am researching the family of James Ruddell Todd Esq., born in Seagoe, Armagh c1788. He was a director of the South Australian Company, the company formed for the colonisation of the state of South Australia, and was a parliamentary member for Honiton. He resided in London and children were born there. I believe he is linked to my ancestor Sophia Ruddell Todd of Divenny in Portadown.

Does anyone out there know anything about this family?

Kelly.

Hi Kelly, It's Eirene here.   :D

The people you meet online eh?  So have you found that Sophia Ruddle Todd is really Sophia Ruddell Todd, and you have where she comes from in Ireland?  You have probably sent that info to me, but I'm not very good at compiling my information.  Wouldn't it be interesting if there was a connection with James Ruddell Todd of the SA Company.

Hello there, small world!!

I know almost nothing about this family, only what Anita in WA sent me which was very little. I originally thought Sophia's middle name was Ruddell but then in later correspondence Anita wrote Ruddle so I had no idea. On my honeymoon on KI there was a book in our rental place about South Australia and there was the name James Ruddell Todd, for years I have been meaning to find out about him. Through the internet I have a little but no specific genealogy as yet which ties him to our Sophia - but just look at the names!
I found a reference to a will of Sophia Robinson of Divenny and plan to send away for it sometime soon.
I've also made a Carrick link - I really should email you or something! Anyway a man believes he has found a link with our James Todd to other Carricks in Aus named Elizabeth Carrick (Dawson) and Charles Lynd Todd Carrick.
I had a computer crash (again) and lost email addresses, can you contact me?

Kel :)
