Royal Flying Corps
« on: Thursday 13 August 09 20:07 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have information about the RF Corps during 1914-1918 in Mesopotamia.  My relation Nelson Harker (born 1897 Holbeck, Leeds) was stationed there for part of the war.  I cannot find his records but did find him on the electoral roll 1918 for absentee service men giving 3/am 28154.
Thanks

If he transferred to the RAF after its formation in April 1918 he MAY have a record in the AIR 76 files at Kew but not online....Im unsure how to get RAF records from Kew never done it :(
Did you find any MIC to him in RFC? if not he may well have gone overseas in the RAF ?

I can't find a MIC on NA under his name or number, so it looks like he went overseas with the RAF.

From one source, his number suggests he was civilian intake to the RFC, 1916.

3/AM = Air Mechanic Third Class.

Leeds AVL has him as RAF so would go with the AIR Files at Kew.

Ady & Phil
Thanks for your help/information.  I have never been to Kew before but am realising that it is the hub of ancestral information, so I will be trying to organise a visit to look up some air records.

What does MIC mean please?

Phil - which source suggested that he was civilian intake to the RFC - I think he would have been.
Thanks, Olphert

Hello Olphert,

MIC = Medal Index Card

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/medals.asp

The source was an old thread on another forum referring in turn to a site called "Air Force Deaths", but I can't find it.
