I'm looking for census or marriage notations for Edward Gostick. Born 1843 Clarkenwell. Married Sara Wilkinson unknown date.

Edward's father was Samuel Gostick, mother unknown.

He  doesn't seem to appear in England after the 1861 census.

The 1881 Canada census suggests that he left England between ca. 1868 and 1870 when his son Samuel was born in Ontario. He dies 17 Nov 1911 in Muskoka district, Ontario

I wonder if this Criminal Record is him - it's such an uncommon name that I'd be tempted to say yes

Thank you so much for all this information.

This line is full of knots for me and is my direct paternal line, so rather important to my research.

There are a lot of Gosticks listed in the Mendora County/Muskoka region of Ontario and there is some confusion with many Edwards, Harriets and Samuels.

I found,  thanks to your contribution regarding estimated date of departure from UK, a needed correction in my files. Edward and Sarah Ann apparently had two children in London before arriving in Canada - there were:

Arthur Edmond b. 1866 London England d. 1889 Foots bay Ontario (from Falling trees - this wasn't uncommon)

Helen Julia b. 1868 London England m. Edward John Woodroffe (this event was Canadian.

Much of my confusion around this line was the Samuels and Edwards with the Wilkinson name. I had not had Harriet Wilkinson's name to go with my Samuel - and the documents I'd been given noted Sarah Ann Wilkinson twice, as wife to both Samuel and Edward.  You have been very helpful.

I'd agree with you re: the criminal record of Samuel.
