James Stewart 1844 - 1926.
« on: Wednesday 12 August 09 19:33 BST (UK) »
Born in Dumfries in 1844 [per 1871, 1881 1891, 1901 and 1911 Censuses + Marriage Certificates.]  Son of John Stewart.
Mother and exact Date of Birth unknown.  Living in Swansea, S Wales at least from 1871 to 1926.

I hoped the attach photo of him in uniform would give a lead.  No idea of when he was in the army. No trace of his army record from 1873 to 1913 at PRO Kew

Have no idea of how to push past this block.  James is my Great Grandfather.

Not him unfortunately  :-\ He shows in 1871 living with his mother Agnes Jackson, a tailor by trade.

David, regarding the photo of James in uniform. Why don't you post this on the Armed Forces board here on RC www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,300.0.html and ask for help in both dating and regiment etc.
