Hi

I looked on free bmd, and couldn't get anything near for Sneyd.

However, searching on Sn*d, the nearest I get was: _

James Snead died June 1910, Wigan aged 40, reg. 8c 18.
(ie. Apr - Jun).

I wonder what's on Wigan World.

Best wishes

Hi

Searching Wigan cemetery the same death is given as 48 years.  One of the two records these were copied from was probably hard to read.  The first one from free bmd nearly fit for age.

There are also a couple spelt Sneyd as you did on here - young children.

Site's well worth a look and you can search other databases.

I believe he died after 1901 and before 1910.

Hi can i ask how you know he died inbetween those dates?
I found his marriage in Oldhame 1895 to Jane Ellen Moon st. Paul's Royton .
I also found a James Sneyd who died in WW1, but it does not give a date of birth. So it maynot be him?

James Sneyd service number 52736
King's Liverpool regiment. 1st battalion.
Enlisted / Residence:  Oldham.
Killed in action. 8th jan 1918France/Flander.

Formerly. 2404 Manchester regiment.
There is also a medal card for this man but does not mention he died on it, not any mention of the Manchester regiment too?

If this does turn out to be your man? You can get a photo of his war grave from this web site but they charge £3.

Hi
Thanks for the information,I already have the marriage of James Sneyd and Jane Moon at St Pauls Royton.
The reason why I assumed he died between those dates was that his wife Jane Sneyd had a child by him in 1901 but then she had a child when living with John Barker in 1908.
He may of course not have died during this time ,she might have just left him to go and live with John Barker.
Incidentally from all the census reports I am assuming that James Sneyd was born in 1872, his parents being Joseph and Sarah, they lived in Dale Street Royton in the 1881 census.

Strange but i just looked and between late 1910 and early 1912. These are all in the same house hold.

BARKER JABY MALE 1868 43 Oldham
BARKER JOHN MALE 1874 37 Oldham
BARKER LUSY FEMALE 1908 AGE 3 Oldham
BARKER JOHN MALE 1910 1 Oldham
SNEYD JANE ELLEN FEMALE 1874 AGE 37
SNEYD MAGGIE FEMALE 1904 AGE 7 Oldham
SNEYD SARAH ANN FEMALE 1901 AGE 10 Oldham

With Maggie been born 1904 and having the surname of SNEYD, i take it James fathered her. So he must have been alive then?
