Hi John,

Would 'a Man of the Cloth' not be a Minister?

I had a look at this site: http://www.glasgowhistory.co.uk/Books/Shettleston/Sections/Section%20IV.htm but there's no MacFarlane's listed as Ministers of any of them.

I get the feeling that 'Milncroft' was perhaps an area of Shettleston rather than an actual address. I found various references about a firm of Dyers (going bust) at Milncroft, Shettleston in 1877 http://web.ukonline.co.uk/peter88gate/newspapers.html)

Also, here: http://www.glasgowhistory.co.uk/Books/Shettleston%202/Section%20IV.htm there's an old photo showing a view 'towards' Milncroft.

Try typing 'Milncroft, Shettleston, 1900' into Google and there's quite a lot of articles. Maybe ploughing through some of them will give some clues.

Normally in marriages conducted in accordance with the Church of Scotland procedures the marriage would, most commonly, be conducted at either the Brides home address or the Ministers home (The Manse).
If Holmcroft was both your ancestors residence and the place where the marriage ceremony was conducted it is possible that this was the Manse occupied by the minister - I don't see many other employers allowing their servants to use their home for a wedding.
If correct the problem now is identifying which church the manse was attached to which should help in tying down the exact location.

I have no idea why (in my wee brain) Holmcroft suddenly became Milncroft!
