Death records PEI 1846
« on: Tuesday 11 August 09 19:39 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Are there any death records available for Prince Edward Island in 1846? I am looking for Ann MacLennan that married Alexander McGregor in Applecross, Scotland. One line of search has taken me to PEI, where there is an Ann (Maclennan) McGregor that died in 1846 and is buried in Valleyfield United Cemetery.

What I am after is her parent(s) name(s), to see if she is the one that I'm looking for. My Ann is daughter to Farquhar MacLennan and Christian McGregor. Apparently the Ann that died in PEI had a son called Farquhar and a daughter called Christian, which makes the chances stronger.

Thanks for any help,
Francisco

Hi Francisco:

I found the following info in the book "From Scotland to Prince Edward Island":

Alexander McGregor - date of death February, 1846 at the age of 50.  Wife, Ann McLennan - date of death May, 1846 at the age of 38.  Emigrated from Ross-shire to PEI in 1812.

Not exactly what you were looking for, but maybe the date they emigrated and their ages may help.  You should check out the link for The Island Register at:

http://www.islandregister.com

There is a wealth of info on that site and also the Prince Edward Island Genealogical Society at:

http://www.peigs.ca

There is a searchable 1841 census available but at the moment the server is busy!

Good luck!

Sho

Hi Sho,

This could be much MORE than what I'm looking for. Your quote from the book holds the clue: "Emigrated to PEI in 1812".

That means they married in PEI... my couple married in Applecross. So I can discard this family, which is good! It means I can return to the second family of the same names I was researching and that were still in Applecross in 1851.

Thanks for that very valuable piece of information.

Hi,

Thanks for the link, I've found many headstones there before, but in the case of this family they left Scotland sometime before 1861 and are therefore buried somewhere else (some of those headstones in rossandcromartyroots include inscriptions of deaths abroad, but it's not the case with this family  :()
