My Great Grandfather Robert Evans and his two brothers moved to Trevor/Llanaelhaearn from the Penmaenmawr granite quarry in 1855 although they soon went onto better things. William the eldest took over the Post Office in Lithfaen and built around 50 of the quarrymen's cottages while Robert after a bit of droving ran the Sportsman Inn outside Clynnog and after that became a cattle dealer selling the Lleyn cattle in English markets.
In the beginning of the last century I believe there was a bit of a slump in Trefor and a number of the quarry men emigrated to Redgranite, Wisconsin. One of them was my Grandfather's nephew Robert William Luckett Evans who followed his sweetheart Ethel Newbold who had moved to the US in 1909 with her parents Alfred (born in Mountsorrel) and Ellen Newbold (born in Shepshed).
