Dear Phyl,
Thank you very much for your emails and sorry for the confusion, I think there's a glitch in the system as I did get your emails and I replied straight away to your first message the other day but my reply may never have been sent!
That's very annoying if that's still the case so I've sent you several messages just now, one as a reply the other as a private message, hoping one gets through! I'm trying this just in case there's problems (or maybe it was a temporary glitch?)
Anyway, I have been doing a bit of searching of Ancestry and found some very interesting things about Emile (of Mauritius's) children; two of whom followed in his footsteps, as stewards then ship's cooks and bakers.
He had two other children, I don't know whether you know of them; John, born 1919, and Francis Gerard Louis, born 1921.
Arthur Emile Louis was the son of Rose A Maye (I've worked it out; Rose was Rose A Maye; oh, I spent ages explaining that in my 'lost' email, the one you didn't get!
The clue was on a passenger list I had seen before, wherein the address of someone they knew in the UK was listed and she was called 'Maye' and you see I found Arthur's birth record, and it indicates Maye as his mum's surname; so that makes Rose, Rose A Maye!)
Anyway, so Emile and Rose had 4 children together, though I think Arthur Thomas, born 1917 in Hong Kong, may well have died young, I'm not sure though.
Well, I hope you get one of my messages and I look forward to learning more stories about Emile; its lovely to know there are some great stories about him in the family.
I'd love to find out more about his 'swag' bags and such like; there were so many great characters aboard the Gathpool!
All the best,
Bye for now,
Jess
