Capuchin Franciscan Pilgrimage 1958
« on: Friday 04 January 08 14:50 GMT (UK) »
I have in my possesion a card (itinerary) for the 1958 Capucin Franciscan Pilgrimage to Lourdes in 1958. The name appears to be that of my Father's Aunt Jeanie (Jane) McNaly, of Ballykea. I have no idea how it came into our possesion. It gives the itinerary, Obviously!) and the namesof the hotels in Paris & Lourdes. She is listed as seat No 82! Can anyone throw any light on this particular pilgrimage, or any of these pilgrimages as i literally know nothing about them. Any help would be most appreciated.

Happy New Year for 2008 to all RootsChat Users, Especially the Dublin Board!!

No need to start a new topic so I've merged your latest post with the duplicate one you posted last year. Is there any name or address on the itinerary so that you could try to make contact with the church or organisations? or perhaps ot's a matter of tring lots of combinations of words in a search engine like Google to see if there's anything already online.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Pilgrimages to Lourdes seemed to be quite common events in the 50s. I've seen photo's of some family members on these events. It seems they may have started around the time air-travel became a bit more affordable. From what I can establish they were organized either by (Catholic) church groups or by schools and colleges.

The trip included visiting a shrine in Lourdes and attending a mass - I'm sure a google search will show some more details.
