Would be pleased for info.on Lacey Restall &(I believe)his daughter Phillis.She was born 1906 Catherington & both are at 14 Portland Rd,Waterlooville in the 1945 electrol register.Later Lacey`s death registered Gosport 1954 & phillis in Portsmouth 1980.During the war years she worked as a waitress in an hotel,possibly in Waterlooville where the Restalls from at least the 1880`s had a Grocer`s business.Walter,one of Lacey`s elder brothers,later established a similar business around Denmead.

I have a Herbert Leslie Restall in my family tree... and his dad was born in 1856 in Gloucester, Stroud, England. The names are so close, perhaps they are the same person...

I have Herbert's birthdate somewhere...

Yes marriage to Eliza Pook was in 1857:

Hampshire Telegraph and Sussex Chronicle  Saturday, November 14, 1857

RUSTALL-POOK one the 8th instant, Mr. James RESTALL, grocer &c.,of Waterloo, near Purbrook, Hants, to Miss Eliza Pook, of Gosport.

James delivered his goods by horse and cart; he advertised for a driver in 1877:

Advertisements & Notices .
Hampshire Telegraph and Sussex Chronicle  Saturday, June 16, 1877;
To Bakers: Wanted a Lad about 16 or 17; one accustomed to mould and deliver goods with horse and cart: Apply to Mr. James Restall, Waterloo-ville, near Cosham, Hants.

Many thanks to all who have given info.but sorry Jungling your Herbert Restall is not the same man but I appreciate your reply.If there are any living members of this branch of the Restalls,& I know many still reside in the Portsmouth area,I would be pleased to have contact with you.Phillis Restall,as you say,remained unmarried & died about 1980.Although I am not blood related to Phillis,she did have a close connection to my family which I would like to explore further.Her mother Ethel May Hawkes died early but was born in Catherington near what is now classed as Waterlooville & again the family was local.Are you a Hawkes or Restall & can you help?

My grandmother was Vera Restall married to Stanley Albert Faulkner
Her sister was known as Nicky (Phyllis)
