Warren house, Bramley
« on: Friday 07 August 09 12:50 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm new to this web site but i have an initial question which a local historian might know the answer too.
We have an ancestor who died at Warren House in Bramley near Rotherham, which appears to have now been replaced by a housing estate called Warren House Close. Does anyone know what Warren house was in 1918? A hospital, asylum etc or was it just a house?

Thank you

Hi

and welcome to Roots

Looking at the 1841 census it was just a plain house with a Marshall Family living in it

Thanks Ricky, i guess its worth looking at who was living there during other census, ie 1901, 1911.

Thanks.

Hi

1901 if I have the right Bramley, Warren House has  Alfred and a Sarah Myers living there ???

But not sure if I have the right Bramley as there are two in Yorkshire ???

Hi

Have had another look, and I dont think the two I gave above are correct as this Bramley seems to be near Leeds ???

The Bramley you want is discribed as this

BRAMLEY, in the parish of Braithwell, upper-division of Strafforth and Tickhill,  4 miles E. of Rotherham, 10 from Doncaster.

but I carnt see it on the census's ??? ???

Hi,
I live in Bramley, Rotherham and there is a warren house close just down in the village...However, there is an old building on the edge of that street and it is called Warren House so I think that may be the same house...Its opposite a very old chapel that was built in 1785 whish is now a house...this is a picture of warren house...

Thanks Kristy, this building looks like the place, it may be that my ancestor lived there and that it was simply her house.
thanks

came across this thread while googling for information on warren house at bramley rotherham.
A mirror that was originally from here  appeared on the antiques roadshow, dated  around  the time of the civil war
The house is known locally as the old hall now a grade 2 listed building from the 17th century
