Corkhills of Chester PA
« on: Friday 07 August 09 01:45 BST (UK) »
Trying to trace family of Florence Janet Corkhill who was living in Chester Pa on 1920 census with her parents Thomas, a joiner by trade, and her mother Florence May.
The family appeared to have arrived in the US in 1907.
Florence Janet christened 02/07/1905 had one sibling Eric who went on to marry Victoria Spooner having a son Eric A Corkhill and a grandson of the same name in 1959. Eric died in Daytona Beach FL.

Trying to trace marriage and subsequent family for Florence Janet, presumably she married before the 1930 census as she is no longer at home with parents.
Thanks

I found a number of articles in the Charleston WV Gazette from the 1930's to the 1950's about Mrs. C. Earl Linck attending parties, bridge luncheons, etc.  In Nov. 1936, C. Earl Linck got a permit to erect a dwelling costing $5,500 in Bradford.  There's a mention in Sept. 1938 about Mr. & Mrs. Eric Corkhill & Mrs. Thomas Corkhill coming to visit the Lincks and returning to their home in Berwin, Pa.  The Lincks were traveling to Long Island for a vacation in Jul. 1939.  Mrs. Thomas Corkhill of Devon, Pa., visited the Lincks in Jan. 1941.  (Those West Virginia papers are great for little details.)

I also found an article about the death of Mrs. Thomas Corkhill (mother of Mrs. Earl Linck), an article about the marriage of the Lincks' son, and obit for Earl Linck from 1954 (he died in Florida & was survived by wife & son).  I also found a death notice for Florence Linck in the Syracuse, NY newspaper, which matches up with the 1976 death date merjones found above, but no detail about her family is given.  If you want me to forward these to you, send me your e-mail address in a private message.

1938 Charleston, WV city directory
Linck, C. Earl (Florence C), chemical engineer, home 309 Shawnee (SE)

1940 Charleston, WV city directory
Linck, C. Earl (Florence C), engineer, home 309 Shawnee (SE)

1942 Charleston, WV city directory
Linck, C. Earl (Florence C), chemical engineer, home 309 Shawnee (SE)
(also their son was listed as a student)

1944 Charleston, WV city directory
Linck, C. Earl (Florence C), engineer, home 309 Shawnee (SE)

It looks like the Florence Linck on the Social Security Death Index mentioned above was actually born 2 Feb. 1909, so I don't think she's your gal.  There's a Florence C. Linck born 6 Jun. 1905, SS # issued in Florida in 1954, and died 4 Aug. 1997.  Her last residence was Charlotte, North Carolina.  Since husband Earl died in Florida in 1954, it makes sense that she may have gotten a SS card to get benefits related to his death.

The Florida Death Index has the same Florence C. Linck b. 6 Jun. 1905 and died in Orange Co. on 4 Aug. 1997.  The only other information given is race - white.

yes there was another Florence Corkhill who arrived in the US in 1912 rather than 1907 like Florence Janet, and I think she was the Florence who died in 1976.
Many thanks for all the info.

Florence was the born in 1905 in Birkenhead and entered the US through Ellis Island in 1907 with her mother, Florence May, and her older brother Eric.  She married Earl Linck and lived the greater part of her life in the Charleston, West Virginia area.  She had one son, Tom Linck.

In her later years Florence was a "house mother" in the women's dorm at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.  Her son Tom passed away about ten years ago.  He had two children living in the St. Louis area.

I'm only 15 years late on the reply.
