Site is suspended again. You don't realise how much you value a site such as Lan-Opc until this happens!

Hi Folks

Recently we changed hosts. Its a long story, but this new host appears to be nothing but trouble.
We are working to resolve issues, but these things can take time.
I can give you no definite time, but we will be back just a soon as possible. And hopefully with our Search facility restored.

There is a temporary workaround, using the wayback machine (I've tried it and it works).

Enter the name you're searching for in Google, followed by site:web.archive.org/web/20080202152423/http://www.lan-opc.org.uk

When the results come up, instead of clicking the usual link, click on Cached.

Strange, it's working fine for me.

You need to copy  site:web.archive.org/web/20080202152423/http://www.lan-opc.org.uk and paste it into your Google search along with the name you're searching for - don't put it in the address bar.

Did exactly what you said Mary first time and got no results, but tried again and this time it works.  Interestingly, I've just found another child of my 2 x g.grandparents.  I think he must have died as a baby, so will search for that, as he was born in 1859 but is not on the 1861 census with his brother and sister.

I have found it works both via Google search & directly pasting into browser however the cache seems to be from late 2007 so last 2 years updates are not available (nor are many of the added parishes).

Guess we will have to wait for the 'hosting' issue to be addressed.

Really miss the excellent search facility as it saves so much time, as for somewhere like Liverpool, there are too many parishes to trawl individually.
When it's working I'm finding a great deal of information which is not available without resorting to microfilm in local records office.
Hope they get the issues sorted as they have done such a great job so far

That site: function on Google is very useful. I sometimes use it to search the whole Lancs OPC site when it is working.

Just enter your search term followed by site:www.lan-opc.org.uk

If you get too many results, add the name of the parish where you think the event took place, or the word baptism, marriage, burial, etc.

The link I gave searches the February 2008 version of the site, which is the latest one showing up on the Wayback Machine.
