Thomas Woodley and Elizabeth Deadman - Clifton Hampden
« on: Thursday 06 August 09 18:19 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am really really confused now and seem to have gone down a wrong avenue with the Drayton info.

The last 100% info I have is my gx5 grandfather born 1811 in Hagbourne.  Married Elizabeth Deadman in 1832.  I have been to his grave.

His father was James Woodley and Mary....NOT ELizabeth as I thought....so....where can I get info on James and Mary and any other children they had?  The one issue maybe that James married twice.....

At a dead end.

Nellie

Hi nellie,
I have the Hagbourne PRs from the OFHS and there is no Thomas Woodley
born/bapt in 1811 nor can I find a marriage to Elizabeth Deadman in Hagbourne
There are two baptisms I can find for Thomas Woodley ;
1st  9-10-1803 son of Benjamin & Mariah
2nd 28-6-1818 son of Thomas & Mary, Lab

In terms of burials there three;
All Thomas Woodley
18-12-1857 aged 75
29-8-1876   aged 58
11-8-1877   aged 75

Are you sure it was Hagbourne?

The 1851 census lists him as being born in Hagbourne c. 1811.  He was married in Clifton Hampden and was subsequently buried there with is wife.  I have a photo of the grave.

So, he could have been wrong about his birth year or even place.  The villages I am concerned about are all close (Drayton, Clifton, Radley and Hagbourne) so he may well have been confused.

I will look for him in Clifton and also Drayton and Radley.  I am so keen to locate his parents and siblings.

Nellie09,

Could this be the Thomas Woodley your after;

In  the  Radley  PRs  from the OFHS  there is a Thomas Woodley baptised 13-4-1814 (born 7-4-1814)                son of  Jas & Martha  married at  Sunningwell church,    Lab.

Going back further for you in the Sunningwell PRs there is; 8-5-199 James Woodley (x) Radley
to Martha Edney (x)   Wits; Samuel Lovegrove,  Ann Maria Hedges.

I saw no reference to an Elizabeth Deadman.

Hi Nellie09

Just to add to Alan's info re Thomas Woodley born 28 June 1818 in Hagbourne ( he's in my tree) he married Caroline Grace on 20 June 1848 in Hagbourne.  They had 7 children (all born Hagbourne)  and Thomas died in Hagbourne 29 August 1878 (aged 58).  His parents were Thomas Woodley and Mary Chamberlain, they were married on 14 October 1811 in Hagbourne.  Hope this is useful.  Kind Regards   Angie

Hi all

The 1881 census lists Thomas and Elizabeth.  Here he states he was born in Hagbourne c. 1812.  The closest matching date and location is found on the LDS site with a Thomas Woodley b. 23rd October 1811 n Didcot.

Given both East and West Hagboune's proximity to Didcot, I am making assumptions that this is him.
