Query re Sheffield address
« on: Thursday 06 August 09 12:48 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm interested in this address in 1923 & 1928:  45 Endcliffe Vale Rd, Sheffield.

What I'm after is info on the kind of establishment (private home, hotel, whatever) and the names & details of the occupants.  There may have been someone called H Elliot at this address.

The view of the street available from Google Street View suggests that the 1920s building at this location no longer exists, so a modern view is of no use, I'm afraid.

Can anyone here suggest where I might find this kind of information?

Thanks.

The only thing I can suggest is the Electoral Rolls which will be held in a local library

I live not far from Endcliffe Vale Road. Many of the Victorian/Edwardian houses were demolished and are now either blocks of flats or university halls of residence. Next time I'm passing, I'll look out for 45.

In the 1925 Kelly's Directory of Sheffield and Rotherham 45 Endcliffe Vale Road is listed as the address of Joseph Hawkesley Elliot, occupation secretary.

Apologies for the delay in confirming this. All the original houses between numbers 33 and 55 Endcliffe Vale Road were evidently demolished, and have been replaced by four or five modern-ish (1960s at a guess) blocks of private apartments.
