I'm going to the library where the PRs for New Romney are kept to look for something in that area for another RootsChatter, so I'll have a look for George Harvey.

Can't promise when, as the weather is bad at the mo', hopefully next week will be better.

Hi I have Harvey from Rye married into my Clark Family  Also a maritime occupation family.  Do you have any connection to Lester Harvey in the trade Directory for the 1840's in Rye.  He had a brother Philip, Sister Elizabeth and brother Henry  Their mother was Mercy Clark and I believe she married Nicholas Harvey in 1785.  She is buried at Rye St mary 1820 in her 50's   Sorry for the vagueness but am away from my records and been working my Welsh lines

Thank you very much indeed  Betty for your kindness in looking up George's birth. This will certainly help several of us who had hit a brick wall in our research.
Best wishes
Sheila

Hi,

I 've just found your posting and think that I will be able to help.  George Harvey b.1806 new Romney, was one of 9 children born to Thomas Harvey and Elizabeth Paine who married in New Romney on 30th Sept. 1793.
Thomas Harvey was born C1774 Rye and died in Dover in 1855.  He was the son of John Harvey and Martha Simms who married in Rye on 3rd Sept 1765.  In total they had 11 children.
John Harvey was born C1739 in Rye and died at Mahon in Minorca.  John was one of two sons born to Nicholas Harvey and Mary Libourne who married in Rye on 14th Sept. 1736.
Nicholas Harvey b. C1708 Rye was the son of Lester Harvey b.C1677 and Frances Benson who married in Rye on 7th Mar. 1696.

I hope that this helps.
Viv.

Hi Viv  Does your Mary Libourne have any connection to Philip Lilbourne Caption of the Swallow a privateer in 1757(London Gazette)  They took a prize and had several prominent Ryers as investors.  Phillip Clark was the boatswain and Thomas Clark was the ship's carpenter.  Philip Clark 1730-1806 in my line had a maternal grandmother who was a Lilbourne.  Iam hoping he is same Philip  Family connection and all.     LizR

Hi Liz,

The Phillip Lilbourne that you refer to, was Mary Lilbourne's brother.  He was born C1711 in Rye.  Their parents were Phillip Lilbourne b. 14th Sep. 1680, Rye and Mary Graves.  Phillip b.1680, had a sister Elizabeth b. 6th Nov. 1676, who married Richard Vousdon and it was their daughter Mary who married John Clark.  So yes, they do belong to the same family.  Siblings Mary and Phillip Lilbourne were Mary Vousdon's cousins.

Thanks for the info.  I thought he would be an uncle  and that my Philip was probably name after him.   Have you read William Holloway's History of Rye?  There are Lilbournes in it.   Thanks again  LizR

Hi Liz,

Yes I have, thanks.  The Lilbournes are only a small branch, away from my main family tree but it is interesting to see how they are all connected. I'm sure that you are right about the origin of Phillip Clark's name.
