Any info regarding the arrival of

Joesph Humphrys b. 1825 in Rusper, Sussex to Austalia between 1851 and 1855

He was married in Williunga, South Australia in 1854, I suspect that he came to Australia without other family members given that he would have been at least 26 yrs old

Curious as to Rusper Sussex. I thought I clarified here that your Joseph was not the one from Rusper, as he is still in UK in 1861.

No sign of Joseph's arriving in SA from UK. Looking at arrivals from interstate it is impossible to tell. Most just list Mr

Things like

HUMPHRIES Mr (HUMPHRYS) GANDALAR  "Gosse Master" from Melbourne departed Mon 23 Jan 1853 arrived Tuesday 24 Jan 1853
HUMPHRY Mr DREADNOUGHT from Melbourne Departed 21 July 1853 arrived 25 July 1853

no shortage of these in the timeframe we are looking at I am afraid.

it seems that you think the Rusper Joseph is not who i'm looking for but then go on to say that you found a possible as a lodger in Plumstead

if you have time to try and clarify this for me again that would be great

Hi Tracey,

No sorry -  Joseph in Rusper cannot be your man as he is still in England. The possible I found is a possible for Joseph from Rusper in England in 1851. In 1851 he appears to be lodging at a boarding house in Plumstead Kent (pob is listed as Risby but there is no such place and it is a boarding house in a different county, so accent and person supplying the information probably played a hand in it) In 1861 Joseph b 1826 in Rusper is in Surrey, still unmarried. I do not see another Joseph born in Rusper about this time so feel it is impossible for this son of Joseph and Jane from Rusper to be your Joseph in Willunga SA as your Joseph was in Australia by 1854 and remained here.......Kris
