Jocie; Just replied to ye PM  ;)

Heather; My 'connection' is so vile I couldn't possibly function on anything like GSV. Unfortunately, regards the photo I have; It's a modern one and I have no copyright on it. I thus don't wish to cause a stink by publishing it on here.

Pompeyboy; Oi, Oi!!!  ;D  Since ye know the pubs on the High St, ye may well know this one too. It's east of the High St. I think it could be down Knowlesley Rd? (Could be " The Knowlesley ", for all I know?)

Big, red brick, pointy topped place. Set back in its own bit of tarmac. Sort of on the border lands of East Cosham and Drayton.

If ye reckon it would help, I could PM ye this shot I have. Driving me up the wall it is, because I very much remember drinking in there one time. I had something of a health scare while there (Nothing what so ever to do with the pub!) and so it's stuck in my mind.

Thanks, Heather. But, let's leave it till 'tomorrow'. Only, I'm up to my neck here just now and messing about going into my files for the shot, then up loading it to PB, to send to you ~ as ye wait, and wait ..... and wait ..... just to then go searching about .....

Get some kip, love. I'll plough on with the stuff I have to deal with. Then I'll get some too. I'll upload the shot some time shortly. Then I can PM it about  ;)

Hi ,
I don't suppose you have anything around 73 Lucknow Street, Fratton, Portsea Island or 22 Hunts Road, my 3x great grandfather was in the Navy serving on the Victory in 1853 then in later life became a coastguard, he lived there for a while.
He died in 1880 so it is probably asking too much!

Thanks
Crystal  :D

Crystal; Isn't Lucknow St just on the left, as ye look down from Fratton Bridge, facing north? If so, ye in a bit of luck as I definitely have views of that aspect. Not sure wether the corner / opening of Lucknow St will be in view. But, it'll certainly show what he knew as his corner, as it were.

" 3xGreat Grand " ? Not sure what era that gives us. But, I'll see what I have. It'd be trams rather than buses, that's for sure. I sincerely hope to be able to throw something up. I have a strong hunch I have some archaic stuff from the bridge.

Usual procedure then;  Please PM me an addy I can send any material to. It'll come from Yahoo and probably be a Zip.

As I type, I'm in my folders, digging out a ton of stuff for someone who wants a range of scenes I happen to have well covered. They've got really lucky!  ;D It'll take me a while yet to sort the rest. Then it'll take me ages to load / send it to them. Expect to hear from me by early evening then  ;)

Hi Steve,

Have been forwarded to this Thread - wonder if you have anything for Havant Street - just behind The Hard. I also had ancestors on the streets immediately behind it - Bishop Street, Southampton Row etc etc.

Would be much appreciated if you have anything on Havant Street - and I can put up details of other streets as well.

Thanks greatly in advance.

SCH; I'm afraid that, as most of my stuff is from the days before digital cameras and Google Street View, there simply weren't that many people running around taking (what would have amounted to very expensive) shots of back streets  :( Wish they had

Thus I can do ye plenty of the main Dock yard gate. The Hard. Queen St. All the surrounding, 'more important' features of the area, see? But ordinary streets and roads? Probably lucky if I have half a dozen of such.

So, I can show ye a 'feel' for how it looked in the old days, if that's any good to ye?  But, the only roads anyone seemed interested in recording were the main thoroughfares.

Interestingly; I can't help noticing how, while I have these main roads, churches, cinemas, god knows what else ..... I have no schools! Now, wouldn't ye think they would be something people would have recorded  ??? Strange.
