Hi Steve,
Great to hear back from you, I will PM you now. Look forward to receiving a photo of the Garrison Church anyway.
Our Lawrence Ellison has been a bit of a mystery man, he was living in Manchester around 1830, and it seems after joining the 59th Regiment, he took his wife to Portsmouth around 1836, where he had another daughter, and later it seems his wife Judith was working in the Manchester Poorhouse by 1841 census. He had been posted over to the West Indies for about 4 years and then returned to Portsmouth late 1844.
Lawrence Ellison died at the Hospital aged 46 years from TB in June 1845. Have not been able to find where he was buried, wondering if you would know of the nearby cemetery attached to the Garrison. Would really love to know more about the man.
Wondering if you have any access to Parish Records to confirm more on his family at the time of his death. We've not been able to find his daughter Maria's marriage or death, so we've hit a blank properly lately. Probably need to see the Muster Records, if that's possible.
