Hi Steve

I came across this chat while doing a google for St Mary's Portsea and noted that you have a photo of the old church.  My GGG grand parents were married there and would love a photo if possible.

Looking for Voak and Deasy.

Kind regards Lorraine

Lorraine; Being as I don't know if ye sixteen, or sixty? I have no way of judging how long ago ye GGG Grand parents may have been married there  ;)

But, I'll tell ye one thing: I reckon St Mary's must be The Most asked for image I ever get asked for. And I reckon I can probably rustle up a shot from just about any period ye could reasonably ask  :)

Figure me out a date ~ anything from the century to the decade. I'll dig up the nearest images I have for ye.

Sorry was getting a bit carried away.  They were married in 1784.  I have only just started putting this family onto the computer so my great's could be a few short.

Cheers

OK, Lorraine; That sounds like the time when the church was truly amazing looking. Because it was barely more than the sort of place I live in now.

See it today? Ye'd know what I'm saying!  :o

Now then: I need an e mail addy to send the image to. That means ye have to PM me some Yahoo / Hotmail addy. K?

Only, this place insists that a new member make so many posts before they can use the PM function. It's a security feature. Saves us all being Spammed to hell  ;)

So: Please PM me an addy I can send a jpg to. If it doesn't let ye? Post on here and ask me something else about this ball park subject. Couple of such posts and ye PM facility should be open.

Hey! Did ye know there used to be a duck pond beside St Mary's?! (Hint: Answer Yes or No. Then try to PM me  ;D)

;D No I didn't know there was a duck pond. I wonder how many kids all dressed up in their Sunday best went swimming in it? What is a PM?

" PM " is a Private Message. Click on my name " Steve G ", upper left there. That brings up my Profile.

Scroll down past all the drivel and it says, " Additional Information: ".

Beneath that, once ye get the few or so posts up, it'll say:

" Send this RootsChatter a personal message. ".

Once that appears, in blue, we're ready to rock. Click it and send me that addy  :)

As a matter of fact, there Was a duck pond at St Mary's. Guess which side .....

Hi Steve,

bit of a long shot, but I just wondered if you have a photo of the Lieutenant Governor's House, later renamed Admiralty House? It was originally the Commissioners residence and was situated in the High Street, Old Portsmouth opposite the George Hotel.  It is not the one that was attached to the garrison church.

Interesting one, Denise. I have two huge folders of that area. I'm just combing through them now. Bit of a swine that I don't actually know what this place should look like  :-\

Wouldn't be " Government House ", would it? Only I've just found an image of that place. Though it looks wrongly situated to have been across from the hotel.

I know there's also another " ..... House " I certainly have shots of. Can't remember what that one's called now.

Bear with me. I have a pretty huge collection of images to filter here. Typically, this appears to be a Folder I've never gotten round to even attempting to catalogue yet  ::)
