McGinlay Dunfanaghy
« on: Sunday 02 August 09 09:03 BST (UK) »
hi

i am planning on visiting Donegal to search for ancestors who were in Donegal before 1841.

my gt grandfather x4 Daniel McGinlay 1793-1861 married Mary Paterson 1806-1854 but moved to Glasgow on or before 1841, i believe that they were presbyterian due to the fact that all my McGinlay ancestors were Protestant.

Daniels brother was named William McKinlay he was married to Sarah Boyle and served in the army demobbed in 1830, 2 of Daniels sons were called McKinlay.

i would like to know where the bast place to search as i will need to look before 1841.

any help would be appreciated

That particular spelling of McGinlay with the "ay" not too common in Glasgow. I have a McGinlay line which was McKinlay in one census only but perhaps you may have some of these names in which case I would like to exchange information.
William McGinlay b circa 1798 place unknown. Son of Hugh McGinlay and Agnes Frail.
William married a Jane McBride and died in Partick, Glasgow in 1868.
His son William McGinlay was born in Ireland in 1838,married (1) Sarah McLachlan place unknown and (2) Helen Edmond in Glasgow in 1864. William died in Partick, Glasgow in 1889.
Any similarities let me know.
