Look up request VOYSEY/VOISEY, Wookey
« on: Sunday 02 August 09 02:58 BST (UK) »
Hi
I have Levi/Robert Voisey married Grace Cook in 1827 in Wookey.
Not been able to find any reference to the pair of them prior to that date.

Levi or Robert Voysey or Voisey was born sometime between 1799-1809 as the census dates keep fluctuation.
Grace Cook was born about the same period.
I suspect St Matthews would be baptism place.
Any other Voyseys born about the time in that place would be helpful.
Family names include George, Thomas, Charles, John, Ellen, Robert, Alice, Frederick
Levi/Robert's eldest was a George-suspect George may be a father or brother of Levi/Robert.
Any help gratefully received
Carrie NZ :)

Grace died in 1840, and was buried at Wookey on 5 Apr 1840 aged 35. No Wookey baptisms before 1813 so can't see if she was baptised there.

There is a Robert VAISEY widower marrying at Shepton Mallett on 27 Dec 1842 to a Sarah LOCKYEAR widow. Robert's father is listed as Levy VAISEY in the Shepton Mallet marriages. The index on FreeBMD lists Robert as VOISEY. This would appear to be your Levi/Robert.

This Robert in 1851 is down at Levi

Wookey, Somerset
Levi VOISEY, head mar 50, Pauper (Ag Lab), born Bath, Somerset
Sarah VOISEY, wife mar 47, born Glastonbury, Somerset
John VOISEY, son 13, born Wookey, Somerset
John LOCKYEAR, son 12, born Easton, Somerset
Ellen VOISEY, dau 3, born Wookey, Somerset
Benjamin LUTSOM, lodger wid 84, Pauper (Ag lab), born Wookey, Somerset
HO107/1934 146 16

But see he was Robert in 1841. The same in 1861, where he says he was born Wookey

Frederick belongs to Levi/Sarah, Ellen to Robert/Sarah, and the others to Levi/Grace.

Hi
That is fantastic-makes sense.
I had Sarah Lockyear marrying Levi who changes to Robert after Grace's death-definitely same guy as Charles, my line, is with Levi in 1841. Charles has father as Robert on his marriage cert to Jane Bryne.
With Sarah- Levi had Frederick William and then Ellen Elizabeth.
Frederick William died in 1850 I believe. My Charles names his daughter Ellen-my grt grt gran.  The Voyseys end up in Canada and then the states. Mine went to London but I'm in NZ now.  Roamed far from home.
I had no idea about his father so having the reference to it being another Levi is great-another generation.  His birth date changes but stays around 1790's to 1805. Also the Levi marriage to Martha sounds good-not many Levi's I would imagine.
Thanks so much for your help.
Managed to find a marriage reference for Grace and Levi that names witnesses as George and Ann Cook. Think George now named for Grace's side.
Carrie

Also note there is a Levi born Malborough in Wilts, near to the same area on LDS.
Lot's to cross reference!
Also Bath reference may be a clue as to where the family were living before Wookey.
