City Mental Hospital
« on: Saturday 01 August 09 05:35 BST (UK) »
I have a recieved a death certificate for my gr gr grandmother Caroline Potterton who died at the city mental hospital in 1936. I am wondering if some kind person could help me clarify which institution was that hospital? Was it the one that was the University's Fielding and Johnson building, was it the one in St Mary's parish in the towm or was it the one that later was known as the Towers. Given that the family lived in Aylestone I suspect it was the one at the univertsity but I'm not too sure.
Does anyone alse have any suggestions?

Greeting’s Again….. Whizzy.

Snippet from Goggle :~

The Leicester Borough Asylum, ....  Borough = City of Leicester.

Opening, in 1867,
and is situated near the village of Humberstone. It can accommodate 868 patients.

Leicester City Mental Hospital It became Towers Hospital in 1948 ...

Unquote..
The University site was known as the County Mental Hospital
Which in turn moved to Narborough and known as Charlton Hayes.

Im not too sure how much information you will ever get from the Towers hospital records they are in very bad shape & may never be transcribed, I was after information on someone admitted to the Towers in 1931 & he was still their in 1959, all I have so far are his admittance record, I dont even know if he was ever discharged.

Re: City Mental Hospital Eliza Bradshaw.

Have been told that I cannot view records for Narborough Asylum until 100 years after death of patient. Is this correct? My great grandmother Eliza Bradshaw died there in 1919. Have found her burial recorded in London Road Cemetery. Cannot find her between 1901 and her death. How will I find her admission records? When she was admitted and what with?
Thanks to anyone who can help.
Regards,
Josie.

I always thought the 100 year rule applied but its never ever been mentioned in many emails back & forth between me & the Leicester & Rutland record office, they have given me what information they have from the admittance books  & they are still hopefull they might get something from the records & my great uncle who was the patient didnt die until 1987.

Hello Root Chatters,
IS there someone or someplace to assist with locating two pieces of information on Charlotte (Moore) Kantarges?

1) Where did she live before she was admitted to Towers Hospital ?
2) What cemetary was she burried ?

She had mysteriously disappeared for many years.   I just found her death certificate in Leicester England. Charlotte died at Towers Hosptial at age 85.   The Royal Infirmary Leicester was where she actually died.

b. Dec 2, 1885 (Leicester),  m.  1909 (manchester, NH, USA), d. Jul 1, 1971 Leicester

I just read that the Towers Hosptial may be torn down and sold to NHS.
