« on: Thursday 30 July 09 15:48 BST (UK) »
Hi all
does anybody know where i can find info on my grandfather who i am led to believe worked on the fair grounds, between Yorkshire, Derbyshire & Notts. :)

This would have been between 1901 & 1918.
I have contacted showmans guild but with no reply.

Any info much appreciated

I have family who were involved in fairs between East and West Yorkshire at about the same time as yours and have had very little luck finding anything concrete about them. I have the odd birth cert for their children where they were born at Bradford fairground or in a caravan behind a street very near Hull Fair, but otherwise nothing.

There used to be a good website called The Galloper but I'm not sure if it's still running.

Sheffield university also have an archive which is supposed to be very good, but I've not managed to get there yet.

If your ancestors came to Hull Fair, it may also be worth searching through Hull archives once their new History centre opens in the autumn - if, of course, you're not too far away!

Hi Jill
Thanks for that i will have a look, i am not to far from Hull only matter off an hr.

I have got my granddad up to 1901 in West York's & Lancashire where he was married.

But missing where he was from 1901 to around 1918 when my Dads eldest brother was born. So he was in Derby at this time, my Dad remembers his Mum saying that she met him whilst he was working on the Fairs but not quite sure which one. Probably Goose fair in Notts.

Thanks again for info
