Well its definitely gone now... Its some kind of religious centre... or similar...

My great Aunt died there bless her -- that was in 1957.. she had a fall broke her leg / hip and ended up with pneumonia.. God bless Auntie Lizzie.. xxx

It was generally thought of as not a very nice place by my family????

hi, zin, I visited Hill Crest hospital several times.Iwas in my 20's then, and visited an aunt. It was an awful place and i felt the patients were treated like animals. My aunt was almost force fed.It was a good thing when they closed it.
Bless aunty LEAH

Hi

I also had a relative die at Hillcrest Hospital in 1962 - she died of Breast Cancer (We were always told it was an asylum of sorts - family stories etc). So I did a little bit of research, although there is not that much out there.

Hillcrest was formed in the buildings of what was the Leicester Union Workhouse and it was the main geriatric unit in Leicester until it closed in 1974. It was demolished in 1977. The site is now a school, Moat Community College.

My mother works within the NHS in Leicester and did a little digging with the records office within the trust and found out that they only keep a sampling of records from Hillcrest, and even then they won't be available until the 100 yrs is up.

There are minutes available from various meetings from Hillcrest Hospital at the records office in Wigston, but I don't think they would tell us much about individual people, just about the hospital.
