Well I think that's great, Christine.  :)

I imagine James Armstrong died, Eliza took up with John Young and had son William before she married John,  if she actually did marry him, I couldn't see a marriage for them.

While I was typing this you've been sorting out the birthplaces, as I have been doing, I just thought I'd type what I saw before making any guesses, and you say the same as I was going to put now, that Heighley is probably right - have you seen the census image?  Edington is near Mitford where Ralph was born, so I've modified my earlier post - it's indexed as East Chivington on ancestry!

Didn't exactly sort out the birthplaces - shortcut more like   :D

I know Hauxley (which isn't too far from Broomhill and Hadston, now I think about it).  Last Thursday I drove past Linden Hall just before I drove into Longhorsley - so an educated guess on that one  ;D

It's just practise!  Try not putting too much information into the search boxes.

Glad you found the census eventually.

Swarland is near Morpeth http://www.rootschat.com/links/06sx/
It comes under the Alnwick registration district, so this is probably Thomas' birth registration:
Mar 1855   Alnwick    10b   248   YOUNG    Thomas Richard

Hi Gadget, think you posted about Swarland while I was trying to post this!

Hi Barbara

Christine, Jennifer and I poured over the maps looking for Highlaws cottage a few weeks back. I even went up and took a photo so Swarland was just a hop-skip away  ;D

Hi Maz,

I'm not too hot on searching Ancestry - I sometimes think I've got a different edition to the others on here so I leave that to them  ;D

The baptisms came from Durham Bishops Transcripts - this link will get you to the Mitford section - Ralph is on page 184

Highlaws cottage was a success story, wasn't it, Gadget?  Perfect example of teamwork  ;)
