Bridget ?, 1799, married Martindale & lived Middlesex
« on: Tuesday 28 July 09 23:32 BST (UK) »

Hi All

I realise that this may be a futile request with no last name to go on, but after many months of searching I am desperate to find any information about Bridget, my maternal 4x Gt grandma, and would be grateful if anyone could help. What I know is below.

Bridget was born around 1799 in Ireland. She married John William Martindale (b.about 1804, Middlesex). Date and location of marriage unknown. She appears on the 1841 and 1851 UK census:

1841 census, Church Street, Marylebone
John Martindale (transcribed as Tom) age 37, Builder
Bridget Martindale, age 44
Cecilia Martindale10
James Martindale 7
Ellen ?, age 20
George Ireland, 24, bricklayer

1851 census, 9 Old Chruch Street, st MaryleBone
John William Martindale, 45, builder
bridget Martindale, 52
Cecilia Martindale19
James William Martindale, 17, Builders son
margaret Hamilton, 13, niece
Mary Macnamara, 18, servant
Mary Lyons, 45, Servant
Timothy Driscole,25, lodger
Patrick Gardner, 37, lodger

I believe she died in first quarter 1867, Middlesex, England.

I would be very grateful if anyone could offer anything at all.
Thanks in advance for any replies!

Hi :)

Margaret Hamilton, neice, aged 10 in 1851 Census may be a clue to this.
She appears on 1841 Census with parents Alexander, born Scotland and Matilda, born Ireland. Could Matilda be Bridgets sister?
First 2 children are born Scotland, Henrietta and Catherine
1841 census;
HO107/683/6/St Pancras

Births;
Henrietta Laurence HAMILTON, 13 Sept 1831,Sanquhar, Dumfries, Scotland
Parents, Alexander and Matilda AULD

Katherine Scott HAMILTON, 12 December 1832, same details

Marriage;
Alexander HAMILTON
Matilda AULD
12 December 1830, Sanquhar, Dumfries, Scotland

Just a theory, but can find no marriage for Bridget Auld on IGI.

Trish :)

Hi Trish

Many thanks for the suggestion. I did a bit of searching on Matilda and Alexander, and found them on the 1851 census, but Matilda's birthplace was given as Nevis, West Indies. It's unlikely, but not impossible, that Matilda and Bridget were sisters I suppose, but I think you're right about the niece being the clue.

I'll keep it in mind anyway, and keep searching.

Thanks again,
