Hi all. And welcome to Rootschat, Jill and Chris. I don't have anything to add to the discussion but a question.
I didn't expect to see Italian immigrants being discussed on the West Riding board. But being of Italian ancestry on my father's side (his parents emigrated to the U.S.), I'm very curious about the Italian experience in the U.K. In this particular case, I'm wondering if anyone knows where Luigi De Luca came from in Italy.
De Lucas emigrated from my ancestral village of Montenerodomo, Abruzzi and went to the U.S., and places like Canada, Belgium, and (I believe) Australia. I know the name is not rare as Italian names go. The Ellis Island website has a few hundred De Lucas coming into the U.S., and they could have originated in many places. But I had to ask if De Lucas could also have gone to the U.K. from my village. And even if they came from another town, it will still be interesting information to have.
And thank you, Malcolm, for your ever-useful Calderdale Companion.
Regards
e buona fortuna a tutti.
John
