Lds family history
« on: Tuesday 28 July 09 14:47 BST (UK) »
Hi all
Wondering if anyone can give me some help please. I've been looking for an ancestor of my husband for a while now recently going to my local lds family history centre in Hull where they'd ordered me some records on Cherry street Weseylan Chapel but the wrong years came. Very disappointed they are online on IGI but I'm hoping the ancestor was missed off transcription or was eligible really wanted to check. Was asked to ring back in another month so did so this morning to be told they can't get the correct records but rather than travel to Birmingham Library to go through records which I would love to do but time needs to permit the lady suggested I e mail the Birminghaml ds and ask if they have the records there and if they'd do a look up for me. But I can't find an e mail address for them. Also if the relation is not on Cherry Street he may be on St Martins they might be able to help with that to. Am getting quite frustrated as there seems to be a hurdle at every turn with my hubbies tree. Thanks for any help. missjayniee

I don't think that any of the LDS family history centres have e-mail addresses, and as far as I know, I visit Lichfield, they don't do searches - but I could be wrong.  At the moment a lot of centres are hard-pressed to even stay open, due to lack of volunteer LDS members to man them.  Telephone number for the main Birmingham centre at Garretts Green Lane is 0121 785 2200.  Sorry to be so pessimistic  :(

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thanks for your interest and advice.  It was the Hull lds family history centre who advised me to look up the e mail address for the Birmingham one so they can't have it.  I will have to phone them and if They can't be of assistance I shall have to find time to get from Hull to Birmingham library I would love to eventually see there 6th floor but the problem I have is when we do visit midlands our time is taken up visiting rellies.  My family are in Shirley and my hubbies are in Aldridge and Lichfield and our time is eaten up very quickly going from one side of Birmingham to another.  We could visit without telling anyone but that would be very naughty wouldn't it lol!  Thanks again missjayniee
