Could someone Please tell me the Parish?
« on: Tuesday 28 July 09 02:56 BST (UK) »
I was wondering if someone could help me work out the Parishes on this document...

Also can anyone tell me why all his sisters could read and write but he couldn't? was it a boy thing? He was sent over here with his four younger sisters apparently to look after them.

Thanks

Hi Kate,

Sorry we cannot post complete images due to copyright concerns. I am going to crop and put the parish part back directly.  ;D

No trouble with most of it.

A Native of Co Cork - parish of Effin - near Charleville. Mother Jude MALLY living in Co Limerick parish of ?

No Luck working out what that one may be

Looks like it begins Alla/Cilla - To me it looks like Alla[c/r]ke[ry/y] but the way he wanders on the end of words it could finish with anything.

Looking at the Limerick Parishes I am not spotting anything remotely like what I am seeing

The parish in Co Limerick is possibly Athlacca (misheard). There are 4 entries for Athlacca on the townland database site http://www.thecore.com/seanruad

I can't make out what Cork parish Effin or Essin could possibly be. Have to have another think!!

Second thoughts- Effin Parish is in Co Limerick just across the border from Charleville Cork and in the same Barony as Athlacca. So it is probable they originated from Limerick not Cork -Charleville would have been the nearest "large" town.
